Variations
If you’d like to try something different, I’ve included two alternatives—perfect for those who prefer chocolatey richness or a classic winter drink.
Optional Variations
If you're in the mood to switch things up, try one of these delicious alternatives:
• Hot Buttered Rum—A Classic Comfort
You can replace the peppermint ice cream with vanilla ice cream and swap the peppermint schnapps for dark rum. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm, spiced finish. For the recipe, click HERE.
• Decadent Hot Chocolate Toddy
Replace the peppermint ice cream with chocolate for a decadent, chocolaty twist. Keep the peppermint schnapps for a mint-chocolate flavor, or substitute Irish cream for a velvety treat. For an indulgent finish, garnish with mini marshmallows and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
Whether you prefer peppermint, chocolate, or a classic winter flavor, these recipes offer something for everyone. Cozy up and enjoy!
Telluride Distilling Company
I used Chairlift Warmer - Peppermint Schnapps, to make these beauties which is made right here in Telluride, Colorado. It's the best-tasting peppermint schnapps I've ever had. It's clean and crisp and the perfect blend of peppermint for my hot drink. You'll also see pictured little 99 schnapps but they were only used for decor.
With a European-Alp's styled recipe, our schnapps boasts "enough sugar but not too much to make it a syrup" and an authentic peppermint flavor, all without straying too far off from the favorite mountain town classic. Also a gluten free product. Available in our 750ml swingtops and our 200ml adventure sized bottles at 50% or 100 proof. Gold Medal Winner at 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Peppermint Cream Hot Toddy
Equipment
- 1 freezer container with lid
- 1 ice cream scoop
- 1 cocktail jigger (measure)
Ingredients
- 3 sticks of unslated butter
- 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 gallon Peppermint ice cream
- ½ cup chopped peppermint stick candy more to-rim glasses
- Peppermint schnapps One jigger per glass
- some honey to rim glasses
Instructions
For The Ice Cream Batter
- Allow the ice cream to sit at room temperature while preparing the other ingredients. Using very soft butter, blend the first five ingredients until nicely incorporated.Add the softened ice cream and mix well. The batter may be a little runny and chunky, but this is fine, as the chunks of butter melt beautifully in the hot water. Freeze the mixture in a plastic container overnight or until firm.
Peppermint Hot Toddy Drink:
- Rim the Glasses with the chopped candy cane, using a bit of honey to stick to the rim. Fill an 8-ounce glass with boiling water, leaving about 2-3 inches of headspace. Next, add one generous jigger of peppermint schnapps. Then, add one ice cream scoop full of the frozen batter to the glass. It's important not to stir the cream as it will flow over the sides.
- Finally, add a candy cane. Now, it's time to relax and enjoy this exceptional treat!
